We thoroughly enjoyed riding our road bikes for the first time in a year (since we've been living in Belize that long now) in and around the lovely town of Yellow Springs. The afternoon we arrived, we went out for a short (10-mile) spin into town from the Springs Motel and onto the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail to check it out. The following day, we got going in the morning and spent much of the day riding on the trail south to Xenia and Spring Valley, and later a few miles on the road to John Bryan State Park. Our final stop was at the well-known landmark Young's Dairy for a delicious ice cream reward. The Little Miami trail is truly a gem! Uncrowded, flat, well-marked, it goes for miles in either direction. And it hooks up to several other trails; one of which allows riding all the way to Cincinnati. In North Carolina, paved bike trails are few and far between, and the ones that are available are short, so this trail was a rare delight. I could hardly believe what a wonderful place to ride it was. And since we'd only been riding beach bikes on a flat island for a year, I especially appreciated the lack of hills. We did hit a couple of climbs when we did a few road miles, but not enough to be a problem. At least our Bike Fridays have plenty of gears! Cycling is a passion for both Barry and me; Yellow Springs invited us to indulge it. Click on "Play" in the upper-left of the photo below to start the slideshow. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as we did!

After hearing about this colorful, little western Ohio town and especially how great the cycling is (thanks Debra!), we knew we needed to swing through. We were already visiting Ohio to see Barry's parents in Dover and to attend his 40th high school reunion in North Canton, so it wasn't too far out of our way to spend a couple of days in Yellow Springs. We stayed at the super cute, retro Springs Motel, and got to do some fantastic biking on the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail, as well as around the town. Also enjoyed good food and libations in town and wonderful homemade ice cream at Young's Dairy just outside of town. This is a town we could easily spend a summer in! The following slide show includes photos from the town itself, and a later slide show (stay tuned) will highlight our cycling there. Press PLAY in the upper left-hand corner of the first photo to start the show. We traveled from our condo in San Pedro, Belize to spend a couple of weeks in the US to visit our families and friends this August. The trip was inspired by Barry's 40th high school reunion, but offered so much more. Here are some of the "miscellaneous" photos from our travels. Stay tuned for additional photos from our trip, including those from the reunion and our time visiting Yellow Springs, Ohio; an absolutely perfect town for avid cyclists like us! Emily & BarryWe're a long-married, early-retired couple who are currently traveling as nomads with no fixed home base. After years of living in North Carolina (Emily's home state), we spent 18 months living oceanfront on Ambergris Caye, Belize, a year road-tripping the US in a Honda CR-V, a year in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and are now roaming North America in our 32' motorhome, Pearl, following warm weather whenever possible.
