Staying right in town turned out to be a big plus as the town was absolutely charming (I could happily live there except during the winter!), with nice restaurants, hanging pots of flowers and rosebushes in bloom, historical buildings and sites related to the War of 1812, and was located right on the water with boats to see and very walkable. We had a fabulous dinner and micro-brew ales at the Sackets Harbor Brewing Co. right on the water. With as much as we ate (plus dessert), I started wondering if I might just gain weight on this tour!

After a long day of riding, we arrived in Sackets Harbor to discover that town was too far from our chosen motels (the single-story type with outside entries to facilitate taking bikes in and out) to easily walk to (when exhausted, anyway!), so we rode on into town in hopes of finding lodging there. Fortunately, we came upon the Ontario Place Hotel. Even though the entries were inside, they allowed us to take our bikes in.
