The closest town to TRNP is Medora. This little western town brings in the tourists as it's right off I-94, the east-west route through North Dakota. Medora capitalizes on the cowboy theme, and we enjoyed riding our bikes around town seeing the sights and taking a couple of ice cream stops as well. The ride over from Cottonwood Campground was approximately seven hilly miles one way. Once in town, there's a short paved bike path we enjoyed riding on (wish it were longer!) Here's what we saw around Medora. This playground, built to look like a miniature frontier town, was awfully tempting to me! While not technically in Medora, this Prairie Dog we saw enjoying a snack on the way back to our campground is too cute not to share! Next up, we try our hand at mountain biking in the area....

We missed Medora when we went through that area last fall. Unfortunately we were on a fairly tight time schedule and could only spend the afternoon and night just outside of the park but we did have a great hike there. Next time through we will make the effort to go into the town itself, it looks like a really pretty town and the ice cream has me sold on it. :-)

Too bad you missed it; though all you really need there is an hour or two; it's a small town. But worth a visit for the ice cream, definitely! The fudge was also excellent. :-)
